The dramatic 2-2 draw between Porto and Famalicao at Estádio do Dragão ended in controversy. More than just heated words were exchanged before and after Rodrigo Pinheiro, a former Porto player, scored the equalizer in the 99th minute.
Brazilian winger Sorriso, who had put Famalicao level at 1-1, claimed he was spat on by Porto full-back Alberto Costa. During an Instagram live stream, Sorriso said, “The guy spat on me… What am I supposed to do?”
Costa quickly denied the accusation in a statement on Instagram. “After several attempts to distort the truth, I am forced to respond to an attack on my sporting integrity. At no point did I spit on my fellow professional, something those who know me know I would be incapable of doing.”
He added, “There was simply an exchange of words in the heat of the moment, as can be seen in the footage. To the Porto fans, thank you for all your support. We are in this together, until the end.”
