The boy, a sixth-grade student from Daegu, went missing after hiking alone in Juwangsan National Park and was found dead on the morning of May 12, two days later. On May 10, he had visited a temple in the park with his parents and told them, “I’ll just go up the mountain for a bit,” before heading off alone.

His family believed he would return soon, but when he did not come back, they reported him missing that afternoon. After an extensive search, he was found collapsed and lifeless in a dense ravine about 400 meters from Juwangsan Temple near the main peak of Juwangsan National Park on May 12.
