Fluminense secured a 2-1 victory over Operário at the Maracanã on Tuesday (12) in the second leg of their Copa do Brasil round of 32 clash, advancing to the round of 16 after a goalless first leg.
Savarino opened the scoring in the 10th minute, converting a penalty earned by Argentine attacker Lucho Acosta. Just 26 minutes later, Acosta doubled Fluminense’s lead with a clinical finish.
In the second half, Fluminense was awarded another penalty in the 5th minute, but John Kennedy’s effort struck the crossbar. Operário pulled one back in the 38th minute through Felipe Augusto, setting up a tense finale.

The Tricolor currently sit 3rd in the Brasileirão Série A with 27 points from 15 matches, level on points with Flamengo but behind on goal difference, and seven points adrift of leaders Palmeiras. Luis Zubeldía’s side have been in patchy form, winning just two of their last 10 competitive fixtures across the Brasileirão, Copa Libertadores, and Copa do Brasil. That run includes a 2-0 defeat to Internacional, a 2-0 loss to Bolívar, and a 1-1 draw with Independiente Rivadavia where John Kennedy scored a late equalizer.
The victory keeps Fluminense’s Copa do Brasil dream alive as they look to build momentum in the coming weeks.
